Design Concepts

Learn about the exciting world of desktop publishing and web design. This course will introduce you to the uses of each medium, and will provide you with a basic background in best practice design concepts as they relate to desktop publishing and web design. Adobe InDesign

Learn to create and format basic print publications and get introduced to the concept of master pages. You will develop basic skills in: document setup, working with text and graphics, colour selection and usage, character and paragraph formatting, applying transparency, using tables, and preflighting for print service providers. Designing Online Information/Dreamweaver

Explore the Dreamweaver environment, and learn how to create a basic web page. You will work with templates, images, and tables, and discover how to create internal and external hyperlinks. You'll also learn about framesets and navigation bars, as well as the basics of site management, including a look at the elements and the application of style sheets. Adobe Photoshop

Gain a working knowledge of the Photoshop interface, including arranging palettes and navigation. Learn to resize images and adjust resolution for print or web applications. You will work with the various image selection tools available in Photoshop to discover the appropriate use of each tool. You'll also learn about the layering concept and how to work with layers. Get introduced to photo editing tools and get an overview on working with colours, as well as the basics of image enhancement. Required text (see Software & Course Manuals).

Adobe Illustrator

Learn to navigate through the Illustrator environment by creating logos--first by using simple shapes, then by using custom paths. you'll then move on to creating logos with type special effects, and creating advertisements. Finally you'll learn to add body type and create documents using Illustrator templates. Required text (see Software & Course Manuals).

Adobe Acrobat

Create Portable Document Format (PDF) electronic files, a format that can be viewed and printed across a wide range of computer platforms. Topics include: navigating PDF files; creating and modifying PDF files, introduction to interactive PDF forms; preparing and printing PDF files. Required text (see Software & Course Manuals).
